Dear
Ms. Stiles,
There
are not enough words to express my appreciation for you.
I feel I am fortunate to have had you for my instructor.
I am grateful for the knowledge I have now.
Thank
you,
Sharon George
Sharon works in the office of a private OB/Gyn physician.
I
found the Medical Transcription program through CCCCD
to be an excellent avenue to pursue a career I'd long had
an interest in at my own convenience. As it is self-paced,
I was able to complete the 18-month program in 14 months,
and I had great support from Janet Stiles, the director
of the program. I was a little uncertain about feedback
and support taking an online program, but I had full access
to Janet, and she maintains open communication and continual
feedback.
I
was hired immediately upon finishing the Medical Transcription
program after undergoing testing with MedQuist, a national
transcription firm. Janet makes sure the students are
thoroughly prepared for real-world transcription, and
I was able to use the skills she shared from the first
day. Janet not only teaches the "book learning" of
transcription, but also the needed skills of how to research,
the importance of ergonomics, how to handle difficult
dictators, risk management issues, etc. Transcription
is SO much more than just typing dictation and learning
how to spell medical terminology, and Janet really incorporates
all the aspects of the industry.
Currently,
I work a part-time schedule from home that is convenient
to my home and family life. The income is amazing for
a part time job, and when I consider that I no longer
have to commute or worry about my work wardrobe, the
benefits are even greater. My job is never boring as
each patient is different, and I look forward to going
to work!
Please
feel free to contact me if I can provide any further
information that could be useful.
Regards

"Janet
Stiles and the SETT, Inc. medical transcription course
changed my life. Janet offered me excellent preparation
for this new and exciting career. MedQuist, one of the
largest MT companies in the world, hired me almost immediately
upon graduation. I now have an ever-challenging, legitimate,
work-from-home-career that I can do from any geographical
area and will enjoy for the rest of my life. Thanks Janet!"

Mrs.
Stiles,
You
probably do not remember me, as I am sure you have had
many students pass through your classes since I was there
about 10 years ago. A colleague of mine was recently
at a seminar in San Antonio and said that you were there
doing a talk on your new business. I thought you might
want to know how one of your old students was faring.
I do not remember the exact year I was in your class,
but my youngest was a baby then and he is now 10, almost
11 years old.
I
began my career working for Medifax in Arlington, before
they closed the Arlington office and moved to Dallas.
After that, I began working for what was then a very
small company called Transcription PRN, also known as
TPRN. I have been working for this company ever since.
I have worked from home for now close to ten years. I
have told the owner of the company that he should contact
you when he is looking for employees because if they
come out of your class, they have to know what they are
doing. I was not your star pupil, but I did have a strong
desire to work from home so that I could be with my children,
and that was the only motivation I needed to succeed.
I can now do virtually any type of work thrown my way
and have hopefully become an asset to the company I work
for.
I
want to thank you for not letting your students be lazy
and for not accepting anything but the best from us.
I know that it was only through your insistence for accuracy
that I have been able to become the transcriptionist
I am today.
Thank
you!

SETT
is a very organized program. The instructor is very thorough.
The program is intense but well worth the time and effort.
I feel that I have learned a great deal and I appreciate
being able to do it from home. Feedback from the instructor
is excellent. The instructor also gives updates on various
changes that have occurred and that are not in the reference
books. It is a wonderful program and I highly recommend
it to anyone looking into the field of Medical Transcription.

I
was confident that I was getting a quality education
when I chose SETT, Inc. The learning tools, references,
and not to mention the instructor care and availability,
helped me to achieve a goal I would most likely not have
ever achieved while holding a full time job. Finding work
as an MT right out of school only reinforced my confidence
in the SETT program. As they say, "The proof is in
the pudding."
Michelle
Barker
Hello,
my name is Karen Barker and I wanted to tell you about
my experience with the SETT Transcription Course. I was
a little 'shaky' about signing up for this course, too.
I spent a lot of time on the web searching out all my
options. I have a handicap and wanted to be able to work
from home. I live in the Dallas area so my husband and
I went to visit Janet and learn more about her school.
I can assure you that her school is everything she claims
it to be and then some. I have completed Transcription
I and II, and I am almost through with part III. I am very
happy with the education that I am getting. Janet has the
expertise (and experience) and knows exactly what we need
to work in this field. I would like to say that it is not
easy to work from home. Some people would think that it
would be, but if you are not a self-motivator, then you
probably need to go to a campus setting. I do, on the other
hand, work well by myself and have no problem completing
the work. I am a little ahead of schedule. Most students
complete the entire course in 18 months according to how
much time you can invest each day. I have been doing about
5-8 hours per day, as I do not work.
Last,
I can tell you that you will use everything that is included
in
the course. There are a LOT of books, but believe me
you will be shocked at how much you will use them. I
have even bought a couple of extra ones, because I felt
I needed them. (By the way, that is an addiction you
pick up in this profession. You just can't have too many
wordbooks.)
Most
of the anatomy and really the first section are almost
identical to the courses that my son took for his Medical
Assistant course. He was astonished that I had to learn
all this.
Karen

Karen has graduated and is working for HealthScribe.
I
am a former student of SETT I highly recommend this course.
Janet Stiles knows what she is doing. I just tested out
with MedQuist two weeks ago and got the highest score
on their test of a student that has come out of SETT, which
was a 93 but the score was actually higher because we went
over the test when I went in for training and a multiple
choice question, which I answered right was marked wrong.
So, my score was higher than 93. I had a job through MedQuist
exactly 10 days after I finished the course.
Hope
this answers your questions.

Former Student
I
was recently on the AAMT web site and saw your name under
the education section. I have thought about you often
(and still cannot end a line with a numeral!). Besides
learning so much from you, I enjoyed the
courses so much because you made them so very interesting
with all of your broad base of experience.
I
have had a lot of people ask me about becoming a MT.
I recommended the El Centro course, but many of these
people are not able to attend school and
wanted recommendations for on-line courses. I have never
been able to recommend one.
When
I saw your name, I felt like yours was a course I could
recommend. I also
think costs are prohibitive to many people, but the payment
plan you offer would probably be just the answer some people
need.
I was very glad to find out that you are still in the
business of educating MTs. Thanks again for all you did
for me.

I just wanted to drop you a quick hello. I am still
working at MD-IT and enjoying it. I wanted to thank you
again for all of your guidance.
Just to let you know, your program is highly regarded
among the MD-IT crowd. Keep up the great work with your
students and as MD-IT grows, maybe more fellow graduates
will come on board!!
Enjoy your day.

Janet really gave an accurate description of this career,
both the positive and the negative aspects. I was surprised
at how low the training pay was when I started out, but that
was only about 2 months, and it slowly, but surely gets
better. The 2nd thought is about finding a mentor. If you
can find a former SETT grad who is willing to be available
for questions - that is so valuable. I have been so
fortunate to have someone ahead of me in this career who can
give me a big picture view of what to expect at each phase
of my career, how to ask for things, even acting as a quick
reference for transcription-related questions. My mentor had
been so valuable. It was the mentor who introduced me to
some great software for looking up Rx drugs, taught me a few
desktop shortcuts, and emphasized repeatedly how important
word expanders are (even though it seems like a hassle in
the beginning).
Some of the best career advise that she gave me was when
to say no and when to say yes. Volunteer when the chance
arises. If the supervisor has a new account and needs help -
volunteer. I started with some very difficult (ESL) accounts
and when volunteers were needed for a new account I jumped
at it. This account is now my favorite. Whenever training is
offered, volunteer, more skills gives you the opportunity to
do different types of reports, and this ultimately results
in a bigger paycheck. On the other hand, it is okay to say
no. I work one weekend day and 4 weekdays. Every week, the
weekend needs are great and we get e-mail and sometimes
phone calls asking for extra time. I have young children and
a husband who works long hours and I cannot give anymore
than 1 weekend day. I just have to say no and be confident
that I am doing me part by giving 1 weekend day. No guilt.
You all have a great holiday and just remember if you do
well with the SETT course you WILL do well in this career.

1. One thing I wish someone had told me before I
started working as a medical transcriptionist is that some
doctors do not care if something is grammatically correct.
If they think it is right, it is right, no matter how wrong
it is grammatically!
2. One valuable thing I have learned since I
started working as a medical transcriptionist is that you
really do develop an "ear" for difficult dictators!
3. Or another gem of wisdom you would like to pass on to
the students. Build up an arsenal of good resources (books,
web sites, other transcriptionists, etc..) and USE them.
Taking the extra time to check for accuracy will set you
apart.
